about me

My photo
Married to Nick for 13 years, with 2 children; Sabrina - 12 and Dominic - 11. I am a girlfriend through and through in that I love girly things and anything that celebrates the essence of being a woman. I love vintage, shabby chic, the country and try my best to do my bit for the environment. SO yes...we have 3 bins in our house and try our best to recycle! I believe that with everything in life, the closer we stick to nature, the better off we'll be. I would love to have a balance in life, but have learnt that balance is not always possible, so strive for significance instead, in the hopes that that will be just as meaningful, and the rest will hopefully follow.

THE BIG GIVE on Oprah!

Shew...still feeling the effects of last night's crunches at Hip Hop (dance class people). I am absolutely LOVING these classes and soo look forward to Tuesday nights when my daughter and I can do our thing together! She is the youngest in the class by FAR...and I am sadly..the oldest in the class, and by how much you're thinking?? ...as Andrea used to say when a contentious issue would arise..."drink your coffee girlfriend, just driiink your coffee"...which was code for moving swiftly on! What I will say is that we have a SUPER class of girls, and since I have gone back to doing just this little bit of exercise I feel AMAZING, and invigorated by the fact that I am doing something out of that comfort zone I spoke about yesterday. I'm sure I can already see the effects of the exercise...or could that just be really really really wishful thinking?? lol!...probably!

Today will be a really short blog. Trying to squeeze it in before this evening when hubby comes home and becomes needy, as I suspect I may have neglected him a little...so I think I'll make that my G for GIVING...and tick that one off my list....giggle...see how easy this is?? But on the note of giving, my friend Michelle has a lovely idea of how to give to a stranger....you know when you sometimes get a little old lady, or should I say disadvantaged person in front of you at the till (ok those of us living in South African will relate here!)...and you're in a rush...but they're COUNTING THEIR PENNIES!!!!...and they're counting...and then they make a mistake so they start again.....DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR...if its a small item...just pay for it on their behalf....well needless to say thanks to Murphy, since I've vowed I would extend this kind gesture to the next person I found in this position...it has happened to me, but when it does I'll take full advantge. Also look out for Oprah's new reality show - sounds AWESOME - called "THE BIG GIVE!". Ciao for now!

Charmed Life, Principle 3: GET AMPLE SHINE TIME – Everybody needs some time to shine, time to be recognized, admired. It’s not selfish; it’s human. When you’re basking in the sun, it’s natural to want those you love to join you there. But if you’re not getting enough of your own shine time, it’s easy to be needy, whineful, and pitiful. The shine deficient tend to resent other people’s accomplishments and dampen their dreams.

  2. You know, you are so right!

I often give people a few rand to cover the balance of their purchase and I feel really good about it. Another form of GIVING - but as you know the secret is not to expect anything in return!!

    Love, Tracy
