Well Tracy G posted an entry this week, that challenged us (she does seem to do that a lot doesn't she! LOL!) to essentially work towards becoming more aware that "we are what we do", based on one of the links on my blog, to a site, by the same name. What I enjoy about this site is that it shares tips on how to be kinder to the earth and to one another. Go and have a look and enjoy! Http://www.wearewhatwedo.org/actiontracker/). Tracy has posted 5 points that she has chosen, from their VERRRY long list of great ideas, (baby steps) you can try to make a difference, whether it's to be green (to the earth), or great (as a person).
I've always tried to be quite proactive when it comes to taking these initiatives/small steps can make the difference to the environment, but actually joining this challenge and being accountable to someone in a weeks time, has had a huge impact on my ability to execute and implement these changes more successfully. I love green, I'm really passionate about it, but am embarrassed to say I could do so much more than I do...so I guess I could say that's my point no.1 "fail" taken care of. Then there's the "being kind to one another" side of making the world a better place, which is what I have chosen to focus on this week, and which I will share with my kids, and maybe encourage them to join the challenge too!....

1. fail - at first I thought..."say what??!"..."whhhyyy??"...but that's exactly the point isn't it - most of us see failure as one of life's "worst that can happen" scenarios, but I think failure to learn from failing at something is the real tradgedy. So it's on my list because I saw this as an opportunity for growth, as I very seldom attempt anything that I suspect I may fail at, and have often pondered on how much I have missed out on, all in the name of never saying "I failed". Sure I don't succeed at everything, but I have never failed at anything significant before....so this is going to be a hard one, but hey, I'm keen to put it out there, and see what happens....maybe I'll try baking with my eyes closed..LOL! but either way, wish me luck!...
2. smile when you answer the phone....I agree...but if they phone me one more time saying I've won a prize (can't tell me how or what) and I need to come down to the beachfront and attend a presentation to claim it, I might just fail at this one...LOL!
3. praise people - you can never do enough of this one :-)
4. bake something for a friend - I have one tupperware waiting to be returned!
5. decline plastic bags whenever possible - I love this one, and am proud to say I've already been shopping once (looking just as overloaded as I walked in, armed with recycleable bags, than when I walked out! LOL!) ...pic above is of one of my new shopping bags, which I thought was a fun pic to include today!! ....
So next week Wednesday will be report back time....looking forward to sharing my success story, and my success at failure!...eish...if you can get your head around that one!
Mmmm, will have to check out that site and see what I can do!!
ReplyDeleteHi Bee
ReplyDeleteWow!!! This is spreading so fast - thanks for the idea ...
Hopefully we will add a few minutes to each of our lives by "GOING GREEN" ...
Somehow being proactive also makes me feel motivated in other areas - I am certainly more "present" in my life right now and I am lovin' it ...
Love, Tracy
