about me

My photo
Married to Nick for 13 years, with 2 children; Sabrina - 12 and Dominic - 11. I am a girlfriend through and through in that I love girly things and anything that celebrates the essence of being a woman. I love vintage, shabby chic, the country and try my best to do my bit for the environment. SO yes...we have 3 bins in our house and try our best to recycle! I believe that with everything in life, the closer we stick to nature, the better off we'll be. I would love to have a balance in life, but have learnt that balance is not always possible, so strive for significance instead, in the hopes that that will be just as meaningful, and the rest will hopefully follow.

How I got my groove back..

This is a photo I took at Drak Sun of the "welcoming commitee"...yesterday she reminded me of myself...looking for my groove...giggle...

As my first day back at the office (although I am back on leave again next week to prepare for back to school on the 21st January:-)), I found yesterday to be …well…. neither the diamond or a stone, but rather like the grit in between the two. I felt myself really having to draw on all my resources and every ounce of self motivation to gain momentum – and seeing as I generally only operate at one speed – full throttle that is! - being stuck in first gear all the way, left me feeling rather dazed, confused and desperate! I battled to focus and found myself fretting just a little about what this year would bring in these economic times. The first sense of relief came in the form of my friend Lindy’s wise words, when she reminded me to take my own advice and look back on my “done it – list” instead of the “to do – list”, which I did, and surprisingly enough I found that I had actually accomplished quite a bit, and I found solace in that.

And yet, last night, as I got into bed and prepared to write my gratitude list, I was still at times preoccupied with frantically trying to plan for the weeks/months ahead in my mind (it’s amazing what one day back at the office/reality can do to one!). I kept getting so caught up in the “how” of it all. Now that can sometimes be FATAL. We agonise over the “how” of so much that we want/plan to do, which is very often the cause of why we fail. I am FAMOUS for this. And this is where it’s good to take the time to read books that nourish the mind and the soul, because soon you start being able to draw on those resources. I was suddenly reminded of a very valuable lesson I learnt through the “secret” that teaches us, just as the Bible does, to do what you can and do your best, and for the rest to have faith and leave the “hows” up to God, or the Higher Power you believe in.

I then opened Victoria Moran’s “Charmed Life” randomly, and this was where it fell open……the message:- Acknowledge all Blessings:- Sometimes we get so busy pursuing our dream that we forget to notice the degree to which we are living it already. We compound our frustration by measuring our level of success or happiness against someone else’s. We compare our insides to their outsides. My friend Denise was lamenting a litany of woes to her manicurist. The woman finally stopped filing, took Denise’s soaking hand out of the soapy water, and looked her straight in the eye. “Denise”, she implored, “Don’t you know you’re the woman the rest of us want to be?” It makes you wonder why psychologists get paid more than manicurists…..

Well I just had to smile at the last comment – it reminded me so much of how the 4 of us Bratz used to get together to solve each others problems, along with everyone else's and world peace!....and we would always, always say that time together was always far better and cheaper than therapy….sigh...I do miss those days...And’s and Linnie…

But Victoria does go on to say this….whether you think of it as giving thanks, or doing a reality check, counting your blessings maintains a charmed life. Hold on to this enlightened view of your own experience by taking a pause from time to time simply to be grateful. I don’t know the precise mechanics by which blessings come into our lives, but I do know that acknowledging the ones we have brings in more. And the divine forces that play a part must appreciate it when we notice…

Oh wow….and that’s how I got my groove back....

  1. Lovely picture - their waddle is so cute to watch!!

You are so right in what you have said. We ar always worrying about what we need to to instead of actually looking at what we have achieved. I also find solace in chatting with my friends and somehow your own problems seem to pale in comparison to someone else's. We just need that get together to realise that.

It is amazing to realise that other people do actually look to us for their inspiration or feel that something about you is what they admire - a girl I worked with once commented on the fact that she really liked my fingernails, yet I always thought of them as just being ordinary!! Certainly a compliment to me.

So yes, what you have said is sooo true.

  2. i miss you lots too my friend - you never lost your groove my Bee it was just shifting gear -changing with the times - new look for a new year - 2009 groove is so much wiser and better than 2008 groove - we evolve with the seasons we flow with the tides - jump into 2009 with both feet and all the YOU you have inside - watch out world - here comes Bee - i am so excited for 2009 and i just know it is going to be a year of personal growth for us all - and healthy and hopefully just hopefully one of incredible wealth so we can all have spare resources to give back to this world - lipstick kisses and tight big breasted hugs, linda
