A hive of activity at the HOMESTEAD

Another gorgeous day! The BEST news is that our school had their application approved to celebrate ascension day, by closing the school, so our little chickens are home, relaxing and soaking up the sun on the couch next to me, while I work....

As usual, THE HOMESTEAD is a hive of activity with workmen in and out the house. We are redoing the floors in our children's bedrooms, for the SECOND TIME - UGH. About 2 months ago we decided to say goodbye to the awful, impractical tan timbavati carpets we had. Who KNOWS how much chicken manure from dirty little chocolate brown feet hasn't been lifted by our (very tired) vacuum cleaner!...exactly....that's what i thought...eeeeuw. I have ALWAYS LOVED the painted cement look, so I finally took the plunge. The floors are now a gorgeous techniqued dreamy white/cream (that matches with everything). Not only sooo practical, but they remind me of fluffy white clouds, and look very similar to the pic I have posted above (no this is not our home), only better, because the paint has been blended with an off white to give it more shade, or depth and movement, is it???.......just DREAMY I tell you. The bad news is, a 2 day job turned into about SIX!! - are we surprised??? The good news is that Murray (another DIY person 'heaven sent' in my life), agreed that the touch up/fix up job just WOULDN'T DO, and that we should redo the entire thing....BREATHE...we are SO NOT DIY PEOPLE...sob....!!! Please bear in mind that each time we have one of these little "projects", every single toy, book, wimpy power meal give away, marble, card, bead, smudged and reworked pot of lip gloss, shelf etc gets removed from the bedrooms, beds get broken down, pc's unplugged, blah blah, to leave an empty shell - all of which has to be moved back, around a very awkward L shaped passage, at the end of it.....BREATHE.....deeply.

Next we are tackling our kitchen (she says in the very next breath!) - it's been a loooong time coming. Just the mere thought of renovations of any kind (changing a plug would be classified as a minor RENO in our home:-/), turns my DH a lighter shade of pale. I on the other hand get excited about the end result, but live on rescue for duration that chaos reigns in our house. I MUST SAY THOUGH, that the results make it sooo worth it, and I could kind of get used to this:-0. Alas, I have the utmost faith that Murray will make it as painless as possible, and between copious amounts of tea and coffee, sipped to the mellow background music of Jack Johnson, "I will survive"....!

So this weekend we are off to the Midlands in the QE2 (caravan), to enjoy the beauty of Autum in my "holy" place, and breathe in beautiful fresh, sweet air, as opposed to the all too familiar smell of curing EPOXY......

PPS: I know this turned out to be quite a long post - of very boring DIY stuff - that really, only my closest family and friends would find even remotely interesting, but.....I just need to add one last thing....with regards to the part about aaaaall the stuff being removed from the rooms...I feel it only fair to clarify that DH had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with that....should I be worried:-/???
