about me

My photo
Married to Nick for 13 years, with 2 children; Sabrina - 12 and Dominic - 11. I am a girlfriend through and through in that I love girly things and anything that celebrates the essence of being a woman. I love vintage, shabby chic, the country and try my best to do my bit for the environment. SO yes...we have 3 bins in our house and try our best to recycle! I believe that with everything in life, the closer we stick to nature, the better off we'll be. I would love to have a balance in life, but have learnt that balance is not always possible, so strive for significance instead, in the hopes that that will be just as meaningful, and the rest will hopefully follow.

Funky little chickens

Seriously?....I always promise myself I'm going to post more regularly, but it just DOESN'T seem to happen! The pic above will give you some idea of what I've been up to though - engaging in a little bit of funky:-)..... Ish....the one provisor is, you really gotta have whacky friends to do these crazy things with!!! Thank you girls, for being the bunch of crazy chickens you are - to me, being free spirited enough to do these things is such a gift!

A sob escapes me though every time I reflect on all the photo opportunities I'm missing, thanks to my precious camera being stolen on my previous strip to Cape Town:-(.... but then, I quickly remind myself that there are people out there who battle to put food on the table, and I very quickly, pull myself towards myself :-)....that's what I love about Africa....you get to see sights everyday, that remind you to stay grounded, give thanks, and just to GIVE (except to pushy, expectant CARGUARDS!!!) .....as for the B*#$@*& who stole my camera, ...well I won't repeat online what I'd love to give HIM/HER!

Just seems like there is just so much to capture at the moment - Autumn colours, changing scenery, and the vibe..oh the VIBE......you can really feel the World Cup hype in earnest now. I know it's borderline kitsch, but I am really LOVING all SA flags and sideview mirrors adorning cars everywhere - hubby and I bought ours this weekend:-). This morning Vee saw an african guy on a bicycle, dressed in a leapoard print shirt, flying the SA flag, with suped up handle bars and review mirror (also all in proudly SA colours PLEASE!).....with Vuvuzela exhaust pipe!!!!! LOL!!

So all the excitement is the good news....but I find myself still turning to the wise words and inspiration of Victoria Moran's - Creating a Charmed Life. Her chapter called "Become an unhurried woman" is really resonating with me at the moment - I am trying really hard - I love how it says: An unhurried woman is willing to include some emptiness in her day. That way, when you ask if she's got time for you, she almost always does...... Somtimes though the reverse can apply, where we make so much time to help others, that we shortchange ourselves and our families....and we MISS some of the good stuff that passes us by! Which brings me to two more chapters, which are summed up by their title: Conserve your energy, and complicate selectively...yes I think that's what I need to do right now :-)

  1. You do realize that you may have a bunch of crazy chickens for friends..... but you are definately the heart and soul of that FUN and crazy stuff.
I wonder if maybe, just maybe.... you thrive and function on the rush of life. I think you handle it pretty darn well I must say. Your insight and love of life is truly admiral, so give yourself a break and realise that you have one hell of a lucky family having you - WONDER WOMAN you are. AND you ALWAYS have time for those in need..... so there IS emptiness in your life, even though it doesn't feel that way....
AND HEY.... how funny, on my way back home from Pinetown this arvie I passed my Zulu SA loving bike dude again. He makes me smile and feel OH so proudly South African, I could honestly crash my car to get a photo of him.
