about me

My photo
Married to Nick for 13 years, with 2 children; Sabrina - 12 and Dominic - 11. I am a girlfriend through and through in that I love girly things and anything that celebrates the essence of being a woman. I love vintage, shabby chic, the country and try my best to do my bit for the environment. SO yes...we have 3 bins in our house and try our best to recycle! I believe that with everything in life, the closer we stick to nature, the better off we'll be. I would love to have a balance in life, but have learnt that balance is not always possible, so strive for significance instead, in the hopes that that will be just as meaningful, and the rest will hopefully follow.

A CHARMING GIFT!

HAPPY SPRING DAY SOUTH AFRICA!!!
Girls, everyone, anyone who cares.....my very own copy of "Creating a Charmed Life" finally arrived here on Sunday - all the way from the US of A (Indianapolis, to be exact)!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks to my very special/oldest (in years not in age)friend Ronda, who understood my need to have it, and have it now - seems we suffer from the same afflictions...LOL! She made it happen, and now I can scribble, doodle, earmark, and highlight (in pink of course) to my hearts content! In true Ronda style, the book didn't just arrive, it ARRIVED!...with the most gorgeous bookmark to go with it, at the end of which hangs an old looking key... and wait for it....just a touch of BLING!! I'm hoping this bookmark is symbolic of all the wonderfully exciting doors this book will unlock for me!... Thank you flower....you are my country bunch with a sprig of everything in it, that makes a special friend...

Before I carry on, I just have to say thank you to all of you who have commented about the fact that you have found my posts inspirational! WOW! What a gift! Thank you! Today I got a wonderful sms from one of my girlfriends to say that reading my blog, and one of my comments in particular, had spoken to her today and lifted her spirits, and I thought that was just awesome! SO thank you again...it's great to know that somehow I can potentially lift someone's spirits....or tug at their heartstrings, or string them some pearls (of wisdom)...even if just for a little while. I'd love to be that place where you go in your head, where you share thoughts and ideas, over a cup of tea, drank out of antique rose cups, whilst eating a melt in your mouth vanilla cupcake!

Just had to share this little moment from today....... One of my "gives" today was giving a lift to an African lady that crossed my path. I had arrived at tennis to pick up my son, who waited (rather impatiently) at the gate. As he strolled across to my car, this elderly lady, overweight in all the places african women are, hobbled along on the pavement, walking parallel to him, but quite a distance away. She glanced over at him as he walked across, seemingly disgruntled and dragging his feet. I could see her reading into his body language as if it told a story all of it's own, and slowly, a smile spread onto her face, as she watched him intently, obviously tickled by him. She then uttered some terms of endearment, and at that moment, I just felt so much admiration for the fact that she had even noticed my little one .... and that something so simple had made her smile. I asked myself if I would/could have found the energy to smile had I been in her position, struggling to walk, weary, and still having a distance to go, with nothing really to go to, except hardship?? Anyway, once in the car, I listened intently as she cheerfully spoke to my son, and they engaged in conversation, and I thought to myself...it's moments like these when I realise that the good people in this country really teach me so much about humility, everyday...and the bad people, well they're just another example of what is and always will be good versus evil worldwide. I always give gratitude for the fact that I am so blessed to mostly be surrounded by people that inspire and move me, towards being a better person, every single day.

CHARMED LIFE - Principle 8: GIVE UP YOUR MOUNTAIN (i love this one!) - The primary obstacle between you and a charmed life is your mountain. Your mountain is the issue that seems foreboding, daunting, overwhelming. This is no ordinary challenge. It is the difficulty that seems to be standing in the way of all you want to do, the problem that, if solved, would free you to be everything you were created to be. Once you've recognized it you need to be willing to let it be there - tall, pristine, and unconquered by you. The new rules are these: God takes care of the mountain, you take care of your life.

  1. Never a true word spoken!! I agree it is the little things that you take the time to look at that can make so much difference. I have started appreciating more of the little things in life since I started scrapping.

So glad you received your book - always exciting to get something that you have really wanted and especially from a friend - they always add that personal touch!!
