about me

My photo
Married to Nick for 13 years, with 2 children; Sabrina - 12 and Dominic - 11. I am a girlfriend through and through in that I love girly things and anything that celebrates the essence of being a woman. I love vintage, shabby chic, the country and try my best to do my bit for the environment. SO yes...we have 3 bins in our house and try our best to recycle! I believe that with everything in life, the closer we stick to nature, the better off we'll be. I would love to have a balance in life, but have learnt that balance is not always possible, so strive for significance instead, in the hopes that that will be just as meaningful, and the rest will hopefully follow.

Crazy this Christmas!

Time is once again proving, that it truly is one of life's most precious commodities, as we race towards Christmas, and the end of the year!

But whilst I face the up and coming frenzy with some trepidation, I look forward to the spirit of Christmas, where we feel entitled to, even for a short while, STOP and enjoy, share and take stock, spread joy, and then last but not least, DRINK AND BE MERRY!!!!! (tea of course!...no point in using a good eye cream and then drinking yourself to DEATH???) …..
So yesterday morning, during my “eye to eye” I pondered on how FRENETIC these last few weeks have been, and had that feeling you get when you feel the need to jump on the bed – Trac! (Courtesy of MAMMA MIA!) or have a night out on the town, or even better, drive the scenic route along the coast in a convertible, with the top down, to the sounds of DIRE STRAIGHTS (or ABBA?)…you know those!?? After a long year, filled with ups and downs, and a year where we have worked sooo hard, I feel ready to LIVE IT UP over the next few weeks, and REALLY lose myself in the MAGIC of Christmas – I mean go ALL OUT!!! They don’t call it the festive season for nothing, and a little bit of festive can go a really long way to getting those happy hormones working. With exams now finally OVER – phew (PS…for those who know and love us, Trac and I think we’ve passed Gr. 4!...YAY!!!) and deadlines at work coming to an end, I've decided that in our house Chrsitmas is going to come EARLY this year. I'm going to get a head start, and take FULL ADVANTAGE of all the blessings of the festive season, and bask in the glow of it all!

My morning drive to school with the kids is our time when we BOP and JIVE to our favourite tunes - usually the 80’s, - their favourite track is Michael Jackson’s “THRILLER” – so needless to say we sing the words, copy the sound effects and then wait in anticipation for that sick, bitter and twisted laugh that comes at the end, we shriek with laughter, and the kids say “play it again Mom!!…play it again!!”

But we have some very interesting conversations too, very often about life. And yesterday morning, as we listened to one of my favourite artists, SEAL, we discussed the fact that he never allowed the limitations of his childhood and the first part of his life, to define who he would ultimately be, and set the tone for the rest of his life. Despite his scars which are so evident, it seems he has found success in so many areas of his life, probably by drawing from the lessons learnt, and the strength of character situations like that can build in you, if you let them. Good lesson for the kids to learn, especially at an age where they may at times feel like a square peg in a round hole. And no matter how normal and average kids are, most of the time, someone or something will have them doubting themselves and their ability to FIT IN. Our children are always asked why they’re so small/short – what chance does a child have, when their mother can still shop for her clothes in the kiddies section of Woolworths..LOL!!.., and their Dad is not much taller! Our daughter, who is the petite version of PETITE, got asked the other day why she was so small, and she smiled, shrugged her shoulders and calmly said…”Genetics…” . The child who asked her the question was stunned, and said “Whoa!..I see dynamite really does come in small packages!!”…and for her that was a triumph…..but that’s a story for another day!...

Many families have traditions that include times when the tree goes up and down, and popcorn gets strung. For me, the sherry, the fairly lights, the decorations, THE TREE, the carols and mince pies, …ok maybe skip the mince pies….ANY OTHER IDEAS most welcome!!...are going to come out EARLY this year, so we can all enjoy being just a little bit CRAZY!!!

And….so we’re driving along in the car, and the next minute SEAL says……”So you never gonna survive, ………..uuunless …..you get a little…. crazy….”, And I’m like …OOOMMMGGG!!!….”AMEN BROTHER!!!!”!
