about me

My photo
Married to Nick for 13 years, with 2 children; Sabrina - 12 and Dominic - 11. I am a girlfriend through and through in that I love girly things and anything that celebrates the essence of being a woman. I love vintage, shabby chic, the country and try my best to do my bit for the environment. SO yes...we have 3 bins in our house and try our best to recycle! I believe that with everything in life, the closer we stick to nature, the better off we'll be. I would love to have a balance in life, but have learnt that balance is not always possible, so strive for significance instead, in the hopes that that will be just as meaningful, and the rest will hopefully follow.

Your circle in the sand....

As I sit here typing this, one of natures gifts just presented itself to me outside my window...a beautiful little sunbird with bright blue/green and red feathers....and I wonder...how do people doubt there is a God?

It's been an unusual start to the year....so different to what I thought it would be, and although it seems to be moving along quite quickly, I'm also equally surprised at how much we've achieved in such a short space of time. What I don't want to do is forget to give myself permission to smell the roses. One thing I have undertaken to do this year is to step outside of that line I've drawn in the sand, which usually defines me, what I believe, and how I do things; the line which is commonly known as the "COMFORT ZONE". And by that I mean doing things differently - even if it's just the small things.
For one, my favourite light pink glossy lipstick has changed to a muted shade of red (called "Latino Kiss"....exactly..yes...that's exactly why I bought it!!..but now I have to WEAR IT!!) wearing items of clothing I wouldn't normally think of putting together, eating differently, trying out a CD I wouldn't normally listen to - (and OMG...I fell in love with it!!!!), trying new restaurants, and/or visiting new areas of interest.

Blogging was a new venture for me last year, through which I met new people, took my go green status to a higher level, and managed to experience and see the seasons change in the village of Lynfield, so far from my little world. So I can't help but wonder, what new experiences this year will bring, by widening that circle in the sand. For one, I am contemplating starting a BLOG CLUB (to replace the book club, where nobody reads anyway...wake up husbands!), and that way I'll get to meet some of the people I've had coffee with so many times, face to face.....speaking of blogs, it's also a lovely way to see how many people out there are kindred spirits...I stumbled upon this lady this morning at 'Lavender Hill Studio' , and I know it sounds soppy, but the moment I heard the first song on her playlist, the tears just rolled down my face (And's brace yourself GF...it's your favourite "Elavator music" OF THE WORST KIND!!!!) - it was just such a beautiful piece of music, and the tune told a story (not that I'm a huge fan of classical); we love the same things, even though in age, we are years apart ...but that's the joy of blogging...you just never know when something or someone's going to reach out and touch you...

To prove we've been busy!.....just had to share my pics of the cleanout we did of the bottom of our garden, which leads into the nature reserve! This was one of those times when being able to bribe children with money, has it's advantages!!! The good news is that the kids and I can now stroll down to the bottom of the garden and walk straight into the reserve with it's little streams and wooden bridges, and go for long walks in the afternoons. (The job took 3 days!)

  1. Amen to that! Sadly I've (strangely enough?) come across a few self-proclaimed aethiests in Blogland - wonderful people who I DO have a lot in common with - bar that! LOVE your idea of a blog club but wonder if everyone else would feel the same...perhaps people like the semi-anonymity of it all. Am also worried I may disappoint in the flesh, lol! Also new to blogging - from October last year & it has stretched me to all different experiences & insights...SO rewarding xx

  2. Gf I wanna come to the club....you will have to include me through webcam and skype so I can also meet all these wonderful sistas.

I am the opposite to you this year gf and intend staying very safely and securely within my comfort zone....2008 saw plenty of stretching for me (literally in the case of my pregnant belly) and this year I am taking a year to breath.

Have an awesome one....miss you more every single day!!!!!

  5. You are so right, how can one not believe that there is a God, when one just look at the awesome beauty of nature. That garden clearance looked like a massive undertaking, but I am sure you enjoying nature at your doorstep even more now. Have a great weekend. Hugs from Desire
