about me

My photo
Married to Nick for 13 years, with 2 children; Sabrina - 12 and Dominic - 11. I am a girlfriend through and through in that I love girly things and anything that celebrates the essence of being a woman. I love vintage, shabby chic, the country and try my best to do my bit for the environment. SO yes...we have 3 bins in our house and try our best to recycle! I believe that with everything in life, the closer we stick to nature, the better off we'll be. I would love to have a balance in life, but have learnt that balance is not always possible, so strive for significance instead, in the hopes that that will be just as meaningful, and the rest will hopefully follow.

O...n BOKJOL is a wonderlikke ding (just a little bit of crazy!!)

When Warren (my birthday buddy as we are both on the 8th March), and I decided we were going to have a BOKJOL to celebrate our birthday, people didn't believe us. But why not?????....

So we sent out the invite anyway.....(with all the lingo and funnies included - nee rerig). Can you believe it, some people actually thought it was a joke, OR SPAM!!!!! But jislaaik man, let me tell you, it was those very same people who "sokkied" the most, at one of the best parties we have had in ages. My DH had calls for days after, from people asking us to do one again....no really - kan jy dit glo??

In the end, our bokjol developed into a mixture of everything that was proudly South African - the food, the music, and the dresscode (eek - ok maybe not so proudly). But let's face it - one of the jewels of this country is the people in it (yes obviously I mean to exclude those who nearly ride you off the road, or greet you with "Hi Jack"!), but living here, I really do find comfort in my belief that at least 90% of the time our crimes are as a result of no education and extreme poverty (yes ok...OBVIOUSLY I mean to exclude JZ and SHABIR!!). But I digress...South African's for the most part are such good sports. We love laughing at ourselves, ...well at anything really - we're a warm and FESTIVE bunch, who have hundreds of quirky sayings and slangs - mainly brought about by the fact that we're a nation with such diversity and richness of culture to draw from. I love our unique lingo and South Africanism's - and we sure dined out on that at our bokjol. I also have newfound respect for Afrikaans music - never mind the TOP 40, you had to fight for a spot on the dance floor when we played "Loslappie", "Tannie met die rooi rokkie", "MEISIE MEISIE", and my ultimate TREFFER....."O, die donkie is a wonderlikke ding!!" And as the saying goes, when in Rome....well what would the party have been without Mandoza and Johnny Clegg???

So for the record, I've decided to go public with some of the pics - so they can be enjoyed by friends and family right here, in the privacy and safety of my blog, as opposed to ON FACEBOOK - BLUSH!! ....especially since no names and faces have been changed to protect the innocent...sorry guys!

Pete Guthrie - lead singer of the SPOONFEEDAS, doing his thing - I'm surprised he could focus on the lyrics, with my DH's wig in the crowd!! LOL!

Go bulle!
Sigh...what is it with songs like Mandoza and IMPI!!!???????
Below: Trace...you so need to find yourself a "George" GF! LOL!...I'm taken!
Ronda: Even though she's actually "Irish" by decent!
Below: No one could resist a BLOU BULLE fan with a mic. - step aside KURT DARREN
The poppies.....my GF's - Thembi (Trac') and Lindiwe (Lindy)...with such "mooi hare"
Eish...don't ask!

Eish...ungaaz.... nee man!

And that's it folks...these were the photo's I could "publish"
