I must say it was rather strange to wake up on Easter Sunday and not have to face the choas that goes with sprinting across the wet lawn in pj's, in search of places to hide eggs! It's fine if you have a garden the size of a postage stamp, but when there's an acre of land to cover, where do you start?? And of course I have no doubt that the children have in the past been more than just a little suspicious about the fact that Mom and Dad never saw the bunny with an eye, and yet we could almosy "psychicly" guide them to where the eggs had been hidden???
Those were the days....but to be honest, I can't say I'm gutted about the fact that I'll be able to sleep in on Easter Sunday from now on. BLISS! The end of these "traditions" do make one realise though that time and life marches on, as do the seasons in our lives, and whilst for the most part we naturally fear the unknown, and change in general, and feel a sense of loss when a child reaches a milestone, children with their "couldn't care less attitudes" and ability to adapt to change are a reminder that something old always makes way for something new, and something better, just like a hand opened to give is also open to receive. I'm looking forward to establishing new traditions - maybe something more meaningful than an easter egg hunt, as our children are now able to understand what Easter is really about.
So with the Easter Bunny now out of the way, we decided to spent the day at Bazley with friends. I had all but forgotten what a wonderful combination beach and real summer sun is. The last few months of temperamental weather had blurred my memory of how good that sunkissed feeling can be, for the mind, body and soul. The Bazley area is a treat if you're the camping type, and enjoy first class camping facilities and beautiful, beautiful beaches.
While our children boogie boarded, spent hours in rockpools catching fish, collected shells, and watched a "Musselcracker" fish being cleaned, I had time to ponder on the fact that my children were having a blast. Despite this being their first "the easter bunny doesn't exist" Easter, they had SURVIVED. So there may not have been a bunny, but there was a beach, and there was Bazley, and what a wonderful distraction they were.
Below - the lagoon at the Bazley "Mac Nichols" caravan park - Bron and Bri paddling.
And then of course - boys will be boys - a lot of pushing and shoving into the lagoon.
gf.....this one just made me cry!
