about me

My photo
Married to Nick for 13 years, with 2 children; Sabrina - 12 and Dominic - 11. I am a girlfriend through and through in that I love girly things and anything that celebrates the essence of being a woman. I love vintage, shabby chic, the country and try my best to do my bit for the environment. SO yes...we have 3 bins in our house and try our best to recycle! I believe that with everything in life, the closer we stick to nature, the better off we'll be. I would love to have a balance in life, but have learnt that balance is not always possible, so strive for significance instead, in the hopes that that will be just as meaningful, and the rest will hopefully follow.

A life dreamed of........

Quite a few people have mentioned to me that they would love to start their own blog, but have no idea what they would write about or focus on, and to be honest, I can so relate. There are times when my posts are scarce, because time contraints keep me..well...RESTRAINED...and I wonder if maybe I shouldn't just quickly post what I've done in my day. But then, I lie down until the feeling passes...rolf!

No seriously. I'm smart enough to realise that, um, well "Life in Lindfield" and all the other interesting places we get to explore, thanks to our friends (Linnie) living in far and distant parts of the world, are FAR more interesting than what would be my accounts of "Today I went to SPAR, and then to SPUR!". I rest my case. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE every inch of this wonderful, interesting, colourful, diverse country I feel blessed to live in, but seeing a place through the eyes of someone who's experiencing it for the first time, is well, let's be honest, fun and exciting! And really I love my life and have a wonderful life at that too, but because I know and appreciate that there are people who sacrifice valuable time to visit my blog - yes Nita - come on out where ever you are!...(and others who've stopped me in the the street to confess their sins!) - let me say I feel blessed and honoured by your visits, hence why I really try and post when I feel compelled to share something of value, that's really touched me, or given me food for thought. And then if you haven't already become familiar with the trials and tribulations of life, so brilliantly conveyed by Mel and Helen - you are MISSING OUT! ...oh and wait - then there's the eye candy of blog world (in the life of a scrapper) - the kind that inspires you to go out there and get creative....(visit Michelle, Desire, Candice ) ! Well that pretty much leaves...um RECIPES! ...but seriously, it can be rather intimidating, and so my advice is - STICK TO WHAT IS REALLY YOU, AND WHAT YOU KNOW AND LOVE, even if it is just your everyday life, because chances are, if it comes from the heart, it'll be brilliant blog material, whether for personal or public view. For me, because what I do everyday relates to life skills and life lessons, I naturally anaylze my own behaviour most of the time...except (sheepish) when I'm behaving badly of course (blush), and that's what I share - my thoughts and views - so this is what's on my mind today.....

Going through my cupboard earlier throwing out clothes I've had for (embarrased) over 10 years (I know, I know - this SMACKS of "what I did today" but I promise I won't go there!!...giggle), one thought of how blessed I am, led to another, which led to another, and I thought..."What if, I am living my best life - right here, right now, but I just don't know it yet???".....what could be worse than looking back in a few years time, only to realise that these were infact the best years of my life, and I missed it, and never made the most of it. That's like not checking your lotto ticket and then finding out years later that you had one of the winning numbers! It's not always easy to live in the moment and focus on the positive, but I think it's sometimes harder when we get caught up in the habit of defining our lives by what we "think" represents the best life has to offer. I think many of us are living the lives so many dream of living, including ourselves, we just don't realise it, or consciously accept it as so, because the rut and drain of everyday life has us wrapped up in what's not instead of what is....

And to Claire - my funny, wonderful, "hello kitty loving", awesome niece/girlfriend, age 21 - now you won't have to read "filling up my tank" no more - hope this has filled up yours, and good luck for your exams on Saturday!
These photo's were taken at Zinkwazi Beach 2 weekends ago - where I felt very blessed to enjoy a sunset like this and watch my kids playing in the lagoon till late with their friends...simple.

  1. that was lovely Bee - so true - many have the desire to keep a BLOG but think it must be super duper craizy daisy stuff - i see it as my daily newspaper that i am journaling- my diary of life and where i am at - sometimes it is fun in the sun or snuggles in the cold or a chance to express my love, fears, hopes and dreams - but it is unique just like we all are.......LINDA ANDREW

  2. Stunning post. Your's are always so inspirational. I also felt overwhelmed when I first started and now for me it is just to put up whatever has interested me. The beauty of blogging is that, as you said, it comes from the heart. So for those of you that are unsure, go for it and enjoy keeping a "diary" of your life and thoughts.

  3. Gf I haven't commented on this post until now coz I haven't known what to say....you astound, stun, amaze and inspire me every single day!

    Miss you more then eva

  4. Beryldene, I never leave this space in blog land feeling disappointed, to the contrary, you are one of the most inspirational bloggers out there. You manage to make us stop for one brief moment and think of what and who we are right now. Thanks for keep on posting nourishment for our souls. And yes I agree, we seldom realise that the now could be as good as our lives will get, so why not enjoy it right now. Hugs from Desire
PS: I really feel humbled by your reference to Doing Life here.
