about me

My photo
Married to Nick for 13 years, with 2 children; Sabrina - 12 and Dominic - 11. I am a girlfriend through and through in that I love girly things and anything that celebrates the essence of being a woman. I love vintage, shabby chic, the country and try my best to do my bit for the environment. SO yes...we have 3 bins in our house and try our best to recycle! I believe that with everything in life, the closer we stick to nature, the better off we'll be. I would love to have a balance in life, but have learnt that balance is not always possible, so strive for significance instead, in the hopes that that will be just as meaningful, and the rest will hopefully follow.

Day 3 - 4th July – Grahamstown - BUSH BABYS!

We arrived in Grahamstown amidst the buzz of the festival on a Saturday afternoon – what a vibe! We browsed the city on foot, had some lunch and then headed out to meet the Bod’s at our campsite, which was about 20 mins outside of Grahamstown. Our site was African Bush as far as vegetation went, and we had barely pulled up the handbrake when the four children were off into the wild, armed with 'supplies' and torches, only returning to shower and eat dinner. They spent the entire afternoon and evening, in the bush – now we’re not just talking a few trees away – we’re talking almost a kilometer away in the pitch dark…where all we could see was the odd glow from someone’s torch. I’m sure some Mom’s reading this are breaking into as sweat this minute, but this was a secure little haven – a place where it felt good and right to let kids be kids and play like we used to. Having grown up surrounded by the African bush for many of our childhood years, Dawn and I could both relate to the freedom these kids were enjoying in the wild. Needless to say they were all MORTIFIED at the fact that they had to return for bed. Ironcially, this very basic bush camp turned our to be the highlight of the children’s trip (thus far), although Sabrina battled to choose between this camp and Port Alfred (so her mother’s child!!). Our children loved every minute of the adventure they enjoyed here…..

A sparkling wine toast to the Boddington's! Our little bush baby's had their own "champagne"...

Memorable moments:-

- our first campervan shower – which turned out to be my best yet! (SERIOUSLY)

- watching little torch lights flicker through the bush, in the pitch dark, faaaaaaar of in the distance, and remembering how wonderful it was to explore as a child.

- the campsite water – NOT

- celebrating our friends anniversary with them

- seeing the beauty of Kenton-on-seaI loved the entrance to Kenton - sadly DH had to take the pic - need I elaborate??...but at least I have it! LOL!

Kenton on Sea - what a place! Sadly we just couldn't spend too long in Kenton, but drove through the village and let the children spend some time on the beach. Overall, we have just been mesmerised by this magnificent coastline of the Eastern Cape. Whilst KZN has it's own beauty, E Cape beaches are just pristine, and have more of an 'island' feel! The water is much cleaner than our beaches, so much so that lagoons etc and even certain parts of the sea are lovely and clear.

  1. Oh, wow I remember the days of playing in the bushes. Always great fun. Glad there are still places where children can experience the fun that we could when we were younger.
