about me

My photo
Married to Nick for 13 years, with 2 children; Sabrina - 12 and Dominic - 11. I am a girlfriend through and through in that I love girly things and anything that celebrates the essence of being a woman. I love vintage, shabby chic, the country and try my best to do my bit for the environment. SO yes...we have 3 bins in our house and try our best to recycle! I believe that with everything in life, the closer we stick to nature, the better off we'll be. I would love to have a balance in life, but have learnt that balance is not always possible, so strive for significance instead, in the hopes that that will be just as meaningful, and the rest will hopefully follow.

CHARMED for the week...

I've had such positive feedback from people who are following the 'Charmed' principles, so here's this week's "fix"....

CHARMED PRINCIPLE no 20 – Complicate selectively:- Lives that work, tend to issue from a blend of simplicity and selective complication. Let’s face it: our greatest joys, complicate our lives the most. Simplicity is what you get when you remove from your life certain complications: items that don’t serve or delight you, and activities that take more energy than they give back. In general, simplifying means letting go of certain beliefs that we hold onto more tenaciously than that dress we keep thinking will come back in style. We might believe, for instance that we have to answer the telephone just because it is ringing. Or that we can part with certain items only if someone pays us a good price for them, instead of comprehending that sometimes the profit is in just knowing they’re gone.

CHARMED PRINCIPLE no 19 – Factor in down time:- Develop a higher opinion of free time, transition time, or even (I know this is tough) doing nothing. For men, doing nothing is almost sacrament. We can learn from them to think better of it. (giggle..very tactful I must say). A lot of women believe that they can’t have discretionary down time because their lives are too full. The problem with this is that down time, like sleep, is going to come after you if you don’t go after it. Give yourself break – even 5 minute ones – and watch your efficiency increase. This is because you’ll more often be inviting down time in and less often having it show up unannounced. You’ll be in control, even if you’re only looking out the window.

CHARMED PRINCIPLE no 18 – Change with the seasons:- The year rotates through the seasons like a wheel of fortune. Being present (there’s that term again!) to each one, possessing it’s bounty and taking it’s inconveniences in stride, means living to the fullest every day of the life you get. The seasons are the moods of the year. Even in locales where seasonal changes are subtle, there are different energies to summer and spring, winter and fall. When we change with the seasons we put ourselves in harmony with nature. This helps us flow with the current instead of fighting it.
