about me

My photo
Married to Nick for 13 years, with 2 children; Sabrina - 12 and Dominic - 11. I am a girlfriend through and through in that I love girly things and anything that celebrates the essence of being a woman. I love vintage, shabby chic, the country and try my best to do my bit for the environment. SO yes...we have 3 bins in our house and try our best to recycle! I believe that with everything in life, the closer we stick to nature, the better off we'll be. I would love to have a balance in life, but have learnt that balance is not always possible, so strive for significance instead, in the hopes that that will be just as meaningful, and the rest will hopefully follow.

Life's a beach!

I've been wondering why, of late, I've had such a yearning to be near the sea, (as opposed to Berg or Bush, or Midlands) on our trips away, when it's the country where my heart is really at......but I've realised that with my roosters and hens, and fresh eggs and 'slowly being rehabilitated' veggie patch, I'm kind of living country everyday aren't I??!....

I love the beach, and enjoy the fact that come rain or sunshine, there are so many different ways you can enjoy it, ......whether it's getting that summer tan sorted, watching the kids build sandlcastles and collect shells, the smell of SUN TAN LOTION (bliss!!), or just watching the swells on a rainy, overcast day....whatever your preference, let's face it, it's one of the cheapest forms of therapy...not to mention the best au naturale foot scrub you can get...and provides some good eye candy too!!..meaning one's husband of course!!! LOL!

It's been a month since Nick's Mum passed away, and we've really pulled closer together as a family, which has made this change in our lives more bearable. We've clung to each other, as you would to a rock for security, and I guess it could also be described as a circle, where the ones in it, are the only one's who understand where you're at, and how you're feeling, and give you the freedom and the space to express it. SO needless to say this weekend was therapy for our family, including the lilly white legs, and the heart and soul, as we laughed and shared and reminisced and our children could find comfort in the arms of their favourite aunt....
Well we basked in Sunday's sun, and watched the waves rise and fall through the rain, and fell asleep to the breakers at night, and came home feeling restored .......home to our house in the 'country'... and for that I am eternally grateful!

Cousins...Claire and Sabrina

On my old little digital, not being able to see what I was taking because of the glare of the sun, I captured some lovely pics this weekend, one I love in particular, of the sea and our children playing near the shore in the background, Nick playing frisbee with our brother in law, and then....best of all...the couple running with their MAGNIFICENT dalmation, who had the most beautiful markings I had seen in a long time.....unfortunately resizing doesn't do it justice!

Our boy Dom who caught the biggest fish (about 6 cm's?)...okay the only fish, of the day!

Sigh.....the days BEFORE cellulite!
The KIT KAT Club....I tried to find this cozzie in my size, but had to settle for this T-shirt instead!
These little hand and feet beach toys were an impulse buy from Mr Price (R12,99!!!), but so worth it....nice for stocking fillers too!!

  1. The beach certainly has that calming effect, even if you are just sitting and reading a book. I think it is also the totally fresh air.

Love the kitty pants!! Don't think you would have posed if you had managed to get some your size??!!

  2. I have given you an award. Please check out my blog to receive it.

  3. The sun, the sand, the sea - nothing better, sista (I will call you this henceforth - am almost certain we were separated at birth ...)

And as for the Kitty Kat - well, you looked gorgeous in your T - bet you could have fitted into the Kitty pants with a little squeeze ... tee hee ...

    Love, Tracy

  4. Hey Gf, sounds truly blissful...you know me and the sea gf..sigh...it is so one of the things I miss the most about being here, Si has promised me a trip to Cornwall next summer so that I can hear the waves...but till then I will have to make do with your beautiful pics. And that tshirt gf, like the barbie umbrella...something only you could pull off, imagine me....there wouldn't be a person left standing....let alone breathing (lol).

  5. OMG gf...that Barbie umbrella...how could I forget....!!!!..sigh...that was one great umbrella...
