about me

My photo
Married to Nick for 13 years, with 2 children; Sabrina - 12 and Dominic - 11. I am a girlfriend through and through in that I love girly things and anything that celebrates the essence of being a woman. I love vintage, shabby chic, the country and try my best to do my bit for the environment. SO yes...we have 3 bins in our house and try our best to recycle! I believe that with everything in life, the closer we stick to nature, the better off we'll be. I would love to have a balance in life, but have learnt that balance is not always possible, so strive for significance instead, in the hopes that that will be just as meaningful, and the rest will hopefully follow.

Winter soups and the WORLD CUP 2010

our children WELCOME WORLD CUP 2010
Nick, Mark, Craig Such tension............ .........but nothing a good old braaivleis can't fix!
and of course we had to keep the table "traditional"
Aside from World Cup 2010, I'd like to officially welcome winter to our part of the world!?!....well....our very watered down version of winter, for what it's worth anyway:-)...

I often smile and wonder to myself how funny it is that we often get just what we want, just when we need it. I was reading in a magazine yesterday, that recent studies done, can now confirm that there definitely are healing properties in a bowl of chicken and vegetable soup.....e-he...seeriiious.

Maybe that's why I feel like my soul is slowly being restored....winter has arrived, bringing with it, it's first cold spell...and so it is that we find ourselves indulging in thick, creamy soups, and hearty vegetables, let's not forget the creamy cappuccino's and horlicks!

I'm also enjoying having these lovely long holidays in winter, which means cold, early morning trips to school have been replaced with long, lazy snuggles and cuddles in bed, with our little chickens....I actually think I could get used to this....long wintry holidays in June/July:-)...long may they last.

The WORLD CUP opening date will always be memorable for me for two reasons, soccer, and the day we had our little service in the garden for GG (Great Gran)....my two boys planted the 2 rose bushes, one for each Granny the children had lost, and the girls baked some scones for the "service".....

Our Bri had chosen some verses from her little white Bible she was given as a baby - I dont think she realised how much they soothed my soul :-), and Dom wrote his own words, about why he loved Great Gran so much. I, needless to say, couldn't get through my words - the waterbugs and dragonfly story, but my DH was there, the other half of me, to finish them off, so a great team effort by all. I just loved this page from the Little White Bible so much...it really brought me comfort.....xxx

  2. Yes, our winter is definitely here. And I have to agree that soup and hot chocolate are definitely the answer. Those scones certainly look very yummy and I am sure that they helped heal the heart after planting the rose bushes in memory of two wonderful grannies.
